Matthew 18:12, How think ye? if a man have an hundred sheep, and one of them be gone astray, doth he not leave the ninety and nine, and goeth into the mountains, and seeketh that which is gone astray?
You will find this same truth in Luke 15:3-7. Jesus makes it clear in this passage (Matthew 18:10-14) and the passage in Luke 15 that the heart of the Father is to go after the lost sheep, even if it means leaving the ninety and nine that are safe in the fold, and even if it means going where it is a bit more hazardous (the mountains) than in that valley where the ninety and nine are grazing. It is so comfortable, safe, and secure to be watching over those that are grazing in the well-watered valley. It’s an entirely different story to climb the greater heights of the rugged terrain and look for the one lost sheep. But somebody has to do it. Unfortunately, there are few who are willing to do so.
The Father is seeking not only the lost sheep today, but He is seeking men and women who will leave their comfort and security to go find the lost ones!
Matthew 9:37, “… but the laborers are few.”
