A Vision of the Harvest for a New Year

An eye for the harvest“Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few; Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest” (Matthew 9:37-38).

“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? And how shall the hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach, except they be sent?” (Romans 10:13-15).

“Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh the harvest? behold, I say unto you, LIFT UP YOUR EYES, AND LOOK ON THE FIELDS; for they are white already to harvest” (John 4:35).

As we enter the New Year, if we haven’t already done so, it would be a good, and a wise thing, to ask God to give us a vision for the great unreached harvest fields of the world!

Unreached -1A vast majority of the world, primarily in the 10/40 Window, is not only lost without Christ, they aren’t only without the Gospel, but many of them have yet to hear the name of Jesus even once.   Of the over 7 billion people in our world today, some nearly 4 million are a part of what is referred to as “unreached” people groups. Over 200 million people in the world are not only “unreached,” but they are “unengaged,” which means NO ONE, absolutely NO ONE is even attempting to reach them, or their people group.

The promise is for one and all, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” But as Paul said, they can’t call on One if they don’t believe, and they can’t believe if they haven’t heard, and they can’t hear unless someone is willing to go and proclaim the Good News to them.

Unreached -2SO THE QUESTION IS THIS: WHAT ARE YOU DOING TODAY, AND WHAT DO YOU PLAN ON DOING TOMORROW, TO REACH THESE DEAR PRECIOUS SOULS WITH THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST!

As one preacher said, “There are certain things that you don’t need permission to do. You’ve already been commissioned to do them. There are certain things that you do not need a calling to do. You’ve already been commanded to do them.”

The famous missionary martyr, Jim Eliot, once said, “Why wait for a voice, when you have a verse. Why wait for a call, when you have a command.”

When it comes to these vast unreached, and, in many cases, unengaged harvest fields around the world, we can, and should all pray. We can, and should all give. But it is going to take a lot more than us simply praying and giving; some of us, in fact, many of us, are going to have to go!

“Why do what others can and will do, when there is so much that needs to be done that OTHERS WILL NOT DO?” – Dawson Trotman

  • Are you willing to pray?
  • Are you willing to give?
  • Are you willing to go?
  • Are you willing to die to your personal ambitions, dreams, and desires?
  • Are you willing to sacrifice yourself for the greater cause of Christ in the world?

It all will start with asking God to open our spiritual eyes and to help us to see the world with the eyes of Jesus. Asking God to break our heart for the things that break His heart. The proverbial penman was right, when he said, WHERE THERE’S NO VISION, THE PEOPLE PERISH! And, unfortunately, there are many who are perishing today without hope and without help!UNREACHED ----

As Jim Eliot once said, “Surely those who know the great passionate heart of Jehovah must deny their own loves to share in the expression of His. Consider the call from the Throne above, ‘Go ye,’ and from round about, ‘Come over and help us,’ and even the call from the damned souls below, ‘Send Lazarus to my brothers, that they come not to this place.’ Impelled, then, by these voices, I dare not stay home while Quichuas perish. So what if the well-fed church in the homeland needs stirring? They have the Scriptures, Moses, and the Prophets, and a whole lot more. Their condemnation is written on their bank books and in the dust on their Bible covers. American believers have sold their lives to the service of Mammon, and God has His rightful way of dealing with those who succumb to the spirit of Laodicean.”

DO YOU DARE STAY HOME WHILE MILLIONS PERISH WITHOUT A GOSPEL WITNESS?
