“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your father which is in heaven … But I say unto you, LOVE your enemies, BLESS them that curse you, DO GOOD to them that hate you, and PRAY for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; that ye may be the children of your father which is in heaven …” (Matthew 5:16, 43-44).
It doesn’t matter where we are; it doesn’t matter how difficult our circumstances, or trying the times, we can, and we should, always let our light shine before men!
It is interesting that this passage of our Lord admonishing his disciples to be “salty” and to “shine brightly” [Matthew 5:13-16] immediately follows his admonition concerning persecution [Matthew 5:10-12].
One sure way of letting our light shine before men is to love, bless, do good to, and pray for our enemies and those who would persecute us!
Sad thing is, we often struggle to love, bless, do good to, and pray for one another (John 13:34-35), let alone our enemies. If we don’t love, bless, do good to, and pray for them, in all reality, we are placing our light under a bushel!
Living, loving, and serving like Jesus is never in vain. This is especially true if in doing so we are pointing people, including those who mistreat us, to our Master, the Lord Jesus, rather than pointing them to other men, ministries, or movements.
Just reflecting on the red letters of Jesus!!!
