1 Samuel 3:9, “Speak Lord; for thy servant heareth …”
Revelation 3:20, 22, Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. … 22 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches. [see also Revelation 2:7, 11, 17, 29; 3:6, 13]
Luke 24:31-32, And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight. 32 And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures?
The great need of the hour is men and women who, like Samuel of old, and hundreds and thousands throughout the years, who have listened to God and responded to God’s voice. God is looking for men and women who will hear his voice, open the doors of their hearts, and go forward in his will.
In other words, God is looking for men and women with burning hearts that have been set ablaze by hearing the words of God!
There are multitudes who HEAR God’s word preached, there are many who READ God’s word, there are some who STUDY God’s word, and there are a handful who MEMORIZE God’s word, but there are few who LISTEN FOR GOD’S VOICE!
And there is a huge difference!!!
Nothing changes a man or woman more than when they know they have heard from God and they heed what they have heard. Yet, this requires a “hearing ear.” If we are going to cultivate a hearing ear, if we are going to learn to hear the still small voice of God, we are going to have to have the desire to do so, the discipline ourselves to do so, and have the diligence to do so.
And, we are going to have to eliminate all distractions that are keeping us from heaing God!
“God tends to speak to people who want to hear from him. He tends to offer divine direction to those who are willing to order their daily lives around receiving input from him.”
Hebrews 3:7-10, 15, Wherefore (as the Holy Ghost saith, To day if ye will hear his voice, 8 Harden not your hearts, as in the provocation, in the day of temptation in the wilderness: 9 When your fathers tempted me, proved me, and saw my works forty years. 10 Wherefore I was grieved with that generation, and said, They do alway err in their heart; and they have not known my ways. … While it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts …”
John 10:4, 27, And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice. …27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:
