“And it came to pass, when I heard these words, that I SAT DOWN AND WEPT ...” (Nehemiah 1:4).
The story of Nehemiah is a powerful story that reveals a man of CONVICTION, COMPASSION, CHARACTER, and a man who was COMMITTED TO A CAUSE!
Four simple thoughts found in chapter 1-2 of this tremendous book:
(1) Nehemiah heard about the CONDITION OF THOSE IN JERUSALEM (1:2-3);
(2) Nehemiah’s heart was filled with COMPASSION FOR THOSE IN JERUSALEM (1:4);
(3) Nehemiah surrendered to the CAUSE OF GOING TO JERUSALEM (2:5);
(4) Nehemiah CALLED FOR OTHERS TO HELP IN THE CAUSE (2:17-18)!
It’s interesting to note that Nehemiah was not a “preacher,” he never personally “saw the need” prior to going to Jerusalem, he just “heard about the need; Nehemiah had a great position in the kingdom and was willing to give it all up, and it doesn’t appear that Nehemiah was CALLED, but he simply volunteered to GO!
WE OFTEN TALK ABOUT OUR EYES AFFECTING OUR HEART, AND THIS IS A BIBLICAL PRINCIPLE. YET, WHEN WE LOOK BACK OVER THE AGES AT THE MANY MEN AND WOMEN WHO MADE A DIFFERENCE FOR CHRIST AROUND THE WORLD, IN MOST CASES, THEY NEVER “SAW THE NEED” WITH THEIR PHYSICAL EYES, BUT WITH THEIR SPIRITUAL EYES [EPHESIANS 1:18]!
Have you heard about the great needs around the world beginning with the need of the Gospel?
WHAT WILL YOU DO WITH WHAT YOU HAVE HEARD?
Just reflecting on the man Nehemiah!!!
