Doing a “Great Work for a “Great God,” Part Three

IMG_1084Nehemiah 6:3, I am doing a GREAT WORK, so that I cannot come down: why should the work cease, whilst I leave it, and come down to you?

Proverbs 29:18, Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.

One of the many great stories in the Bible is the story of a man named Nehemiah and the “miraculous” task (rebuilt the walls in 52 days) that he accomplished for God. I love the Book of Nehemiah. It’s a book filled with so many tremendous truths:

  • It’s a book that deals with spiritual leadership.
  • It’s a book that deals with building something for God.
  • It’s a book that deals with God laying something on the heart of a man and the man’s willingness to do it.
  • It’s a book that deals with SEEING WHAT OTHERS DON’T SEE!

The Book of Nehemiah is a GREAT BOOK because it revolves around a GREAT MAN who served a GREAT GOD and SAW A GREAT NEED, which led him to surrender to do a GREAT WORK!

Nehemiah was a consecrated man.  He was a committed man. And Nehemiah was a compassionate man. But I would have to say, above all else, Nehemiah was a man of vision. He was a visionary!

With eyes of faith – his spiritual eyes –Nehemiah  SAW what others did not see. In fact, Nehemiah SAW what others were not LOOKING for, and weren’t interested in SEEING!

After SEEING WHAT HE SAW, Nehemiah was also willing to go where others were not willing to go. And he was willing to do what others weren’t interested in doing.

Lord, give us some more Nehemiah’s!!!

Nehemiah definitely wasn’t your average Joe. He wasn’t satisfied with the status quo. He was a visionary who understood that there was more to life than simply comfort and convenience. Concerning living the “average” life, I love the following words I read recently:

We all get how average works. We’re immersed in a world of average every day. If you tell friends and family members, “I’m going to stay average,” they may wonder why you felt the need to say that out loud, but they’ll never call you crazy. No one pursuing a life of average ever received a dire warning of failure from a family member. No one pursuing a life of average ever left a Thanksgiving dinner feeling like everyone criticized their pursuit. No one pursuing a life of average was ever made fun of by other average people. But if you decide to travel the road to awesome, you will be. Family members and friends will not understand your dream!

Nehemiah’s are dreamers! They dream big dreams. In fact, they dream GREAT DREAMS, or God-sized dreams, because the dreams they dream come from a GREAT GOD!

GREAT DREAMS that come from a GREAT GOD usually produce GREAT WORKS!

“The only way to predict the future is to create it. You don’t let it happen. You make it happen.”

 JUST REFLECTING!!!
