“And he (Saul, later known as Paul) trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, ARISE AND GO into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do. … And SAUL AROSE … (Acts 9:6, 8).
“ARISE therefore, and get thee down, AND GO with them, DOUBTING NOTHING … And Cornelius said, Four days ago I was fasting until this hour; and at the ninth hour I prayed in my house, and, behold, a man stood before me in bright clothing, And said, Cornelius, THY PRAYER IS HEARD … (Acts 10:20, 30-31).
While reading Acts 9-10 this morning the above passages really spoke to me. Two really great reminders that’s for sure.
First of all, it’s interesting how often you see God command folks in the Bible to ARISE AND GO, or something similar [Genesis 12:1-2; Hebrews 11:8; Matthew 4:18-22; Acts 10:20]. And in many cases, as with Saul in Acts 9, they are commanded to ARISE AND GO without any detailed instructions, and in some cases, without even a hint as to WHERE THEY WILL BE GOING or WHAT THEY WILL BE DOING!
That’s why it’s called faith. And the best way to spell faith is RISK!!!
Secondly, often God’s call to “GO” is in response to man’s prayer for HELP!
God is surely calling more than are responding. God is calling us to step out in faith, like Abraham of old, whether we know where we are going or not [Genesis 12:1-2; Hebrews 11:8]. And we can rest assured that where God leads us are a people in desperate need of the Good News of Jesus Christ. That’s why we call it Good News!
