What to Do in the Midst of a Wicked Culture

Wicked CultureJeremiah 29:11-14,  For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. 12  Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you. 13  And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart. 14  And I will be found of you, saith the LORD …

God’s people found themselves in the midst of a wicked, extremely wicked culture. They were in  Babylon. The reason of course, was because God was judging them for their indifference towards Him, His word, and his ways.  But that’s water under the bridge as far as they are concerned. Now, they are firmly planted in Babylon. They’ll be there for a while. In fact, the vast majority of them and their children will die in Babylon.

In the midst of this extremely corrupt Babylonian culture, God’s people longed to see their CIRCUMSTANCES CHANGE, but Gods desire was for His people’s HEARTS TO CHANGE!

Over the past 40 years, America has changed, and she has changed dramatically! In just the three years I have been in Southeast Asia America has changed so much. America has changed, and continues to change, at such a rapid pace, it’s more than mind-boggling at best, and very disheartening, to say the least. Whether we want to admit it or not, America is quickly becoming a modern-day Babylon.

So what does one do when he finds himself and his family in the midst of Babylon?

He does the same thing that God told his people in Jeremiah 29. Settle down, make yourself at home (hard pill to swallow), and seek the welfare of your city or country But, above all else, seek God with all of your heart [Jeremiah 29:4-13].

Though 2,500 years have come and gone, nothing’s changed. God is still looking for a people that will seek Him with all of their heart. Yes, even in the midst of a Babylonian culture!

Babylonian CaptivityWhile not everything that comes our way is good, we know that ALL THINGS do work together for good and for God’s glory [Romans 8:28-29]. Maybe captivity in a Babylonian culture is just what God’s people need to return to Him with their whole heart!

Jeremiah 24:7, And I will give them an heart to know Me, that I am the Lord: and they shall be My people, and I will be their God: FOR THEY SHALL RETURN UNTO ME WITH THEIR WHOLE HEART.

Just reflecting!
