John 6:5, When Jesus then LIFTED UP HIS EYES, AND SAW A GREAT COMPANY come unto Him … (John 6:5).
Unlike most of us, Jesus spent most of His life and ministry LOOKING UP and beholding the GREAT NEED of the multitudes around him. And when He did so, it always stirred His heart with COMPASSION and led to immediate ACTION (Matthew 9:35-38; John 4:34-35)!
Regrettably, we spend too much time LOOKING DOWN and dwelling on our own personal concerns, desires, hurts, wants, and ambitions. Yet, we have to ask ourselves this question, how would Christ have us to live?
I think the answer, at least according to the biblical pattern, is obvious. Jesus wants us to lift up our eyes and look upon the great harvest fields of the world, beginning right next door.
John 4:34-35, Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work. 35 Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, LIFT UP YOUR EYES, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.
