“A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another” (John 13:34-35).
Some of the most important words ever spoken by our Lord Jesus to His disciples can be found in His discourse with them at the Last Supper in John chapters 13-16. So many powerful, and yet, practical truths can be found in these few chapters.
In His Last Supper discourse, Jesus made it very clear that the badge of discipleship—that which reveals that I am a follower of the Christ—is that I not only love God [Matthew 22:37-39], but love my brothers and sisters in Christ also. All of them! And not with just any love but with the same love that He has loved me!
Now, that’s deep!!!
There are very few things, if any, that hurt God as when His children do not love one another. While it is not always easy to love another brother or sister in Christ, especially if they are different than we are, it is always right!
“This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you. … These things I command you, that ye love one another” (John 15:12, 17).
Just reflecting on the words of Jesus!!!
