“And this is life eternal, that they might know Thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom Thou hast sent. I HAVE GLORIFIED THEE ON EARTH: I have finished the work which Thou gavest Me to do” (JN 17:3-4).
Jesus lived for the FATHER’S GLORY; and so should we. Jesus GLORIFIED THE FATHER; and so should we. How did Jesus GLORIFY THE FATHER? By finding, following, and finishing the work God had for His life; and so should we. And we can rest assured it will have something to do with SERVING GOD, SERVING OTHERS AND SHARING THE GOSPEL WITH A LOST AND DYING WORLD!!
As I mentioned in a message from Acts 26:12-24 a few days ago, and will share again this evening in another church, God’s purpose for all of his people is that we SERVE and SHARE. God could have taken us to heaven after we got saved. He didn’t! He left us here to serve SERVE HIM and others, and to SHARE the glorious Gospel of Jesus Christ with a lost and dying world. I like what one author noted:
We believe our chief contribution to society is putting on attractive worship services. It’s not. We can be successful in attracting people to these gatherings yet not make much of a dent in their hearts or improve their effectiveness as Christians. The primary benefit we offer our communities (or we can offer if we try) is creative, selfless, tenacious service. If we put our efforts there, a lot more people will wonder what’s different about these people who love others so much. We build credibility in our communities by serving people outside our walls with no strings attached. But we severely limit our influence by our self-promotion, competition, and disdain for those who are different from us.
Along with pursuing the GOD of the work, this should be our life’s pursuit!!!
