Jesus answered unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the SCRIPTURES, nor the POWER OF GOD” (Matthew 22:29).
You can hardly find a page in the Gospels where Jesus and the Jewish religious leaders of His day were not confronting one another. In spite of the fact, that the Jewish religious of His day were “busy,” “committed,” “religious” (very religious), and seemingly knew the scriptures, or at least tried to give everyone the impression they did, they were missing the real life that comes, not only from knowing the written word, but from knowing the Living Word!
If we aren’t careful, we can make the same mistake the Sadducees and the Pharisees were guilty of making in Jesus’ day. Let’s not be guilty of saying, “Christianity isn’t a religion, but a relationship,” and then simply go through the motions. I think most of us, if we were truly honest, would have to admit that far too often we are simply going through the motions.
As Christians, it is tragic to not KNOW THE SCRIPTURES and to not EXPERIENCE THE POWER AND PRESENCE OF GOD in our lives, regardless of how “busy,” “committed,” or “religious” we are!
It easy to do, that’s for sure!
Just Reflecting on Going through the Motions!!!
