Pursuing the Heart of God

“This people honoureth me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me. Howbeit in vain do they worship Me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. For laying aside the the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men … Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered …” (Mark 7:6-8, 13heart-for-god).

These words were spoken by Jesus to the Pharisees. And, let us not forget, there is a little bit of Pharisee in all of us.

If you have been saved for any length of time, you know from first hand experience that it is easy to fall into a “spiritual rut,” or should I say, a “religious rut.”

It’s far too easy to go through the motions and make my Christian experience more about what I say with my lips than what I show by my life. God is looking for a people who will seek, embrace, and love Him with all of their hearts, and not be caught up in a “religious rut.”

God is looking for men and women who are seekers of truth. Men and women who are, above all else, devoted to seeking Him. What better way to start a New year than by committing yourself to seeking, loving, and embracing Jesus with every fiber of your being!

O Lord, forgive us for not having a heart that always seeks You as we should. Lord, help us to be a people who seek the Father’s heart. Forgive us for the times, as many as there may be, when our Christian experience is more about what we say with our lips than by what we show by our lives publicly and privatelyAnd Father, help us to never allow a tradition, whether good or bad, to hinder the work of God IN our lives and THROUGH our lives!!
