“Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, ONE THING thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up thy cross, and follow Me. And he (the rich young ruler) was sad at the saying, and went away grieved: for he had GREAT POSSESSIONS” (Mark 10:21-22).
For most, if not all, saved or unsaved, there’s always something that keeps us from coming to Christ for salvation or from following Christ in service. For the rich young ruler in Make chapter 10, it was his prosperity and possessions that kept him from following Jesus.
For some, like the rich young ruler in our story, it’s our prosperity and possessions that keep us from coming to Christ for salvation or from following Christ in service. For some, it’s comfort and convenience. For others, it’s safety and security. For some it’s financial security, future ambitions and familiarity. For others, it’s family and friends.
And for some of us, it’s just straight out fear that keeps us surrendering all to Christ and the cause of Christ!
Actually, when you think about it, for most of us, there are many things that keep us from truly surrendering our all to Christ and choosing to follow Him in service wherever He might lead. In other words, from going all the way with God!!!
Take some time today and ask the Spirit of God “What is the ONE THING that is keeping me from surrendering my all to God?”
