“And He said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man’s life consisteth not in the the abundance of the things which he possesseth” (Luke 12:15).
God knows that in most, if not all, of our hearts—but especially those of us who have grown up in the prosperous and consumer-driven Western culture—there resides the “god of greed” or the “spirit of covetousness.”
Many years ago, one man wrote that our culture would replace God with sex and romance. Yet earlier, many had a different theory. In fact, one man stated with boldness and clarity that with the absence of God growing in Western culture, we would replace God with money. And yet, we as God’s people, would seldom admit that we have or struggle with this problem, or sin!
The great preacher Charles Spurgeon once said, “In all my life, I’ve been in a lot of testimony meetings, and I’ve heard a lot of people share how they’ve sinned, and I’ve had people come to me and make confession of sin; in my life I’ve never had one person confess the sin of covetousness to me.”
Could it be that greed is not only binding many of us, but blinding many of us?
If we are going to have victory over the sin of covetousness, we must first acknowledge the problem, confess it to God, die to self, saturate our hearts and minds with God’s word, and live for Christ!!!
Just reflecting!!!
