“And it came to pass the same day, that Isaac’s servants came, and told him concerning the wells which they had digged, and said unto him, WE HAVE FOUND WATER” (Genesis 26:32)
In Genesis 26:15-25, 32, we find the story of Isaac and his servant’s redigging the wells of old, the wells, which Abraham’s servants had dug at one time, that unfortunately, had been filled and hidden for years!
It is important to keep in mind that the emphasis in this story is not upon the FATHERS [no hero worship here], but upon the WELLS OF WATER (26:18, 19, 21, 22, 25, 32). No doubt, being in an arid climate with no running water, these folks were thirsty. The question is, “Are we?”
THIRSTY PEOPLE ARE WILLNG TO DIG WELLS OF WATER BECAUSE THEY ARE THIRSTY!!!
O Lord, make me a thirsty man (Psalm 42:1-3; 63:1-8; Isaiah 43:17-20; 44:3; Matthew 5:6)! Help me to be a man thirsty for Your power and presence. Thirsty to see you work in my heart, life, family, and ministry. Create within me a hunger and thirst after righteousness and for the Righteous One. Help me to keep from being distracted and detoured from the One who has given Himself for me. Help me to recognize the importance of putting the Lord of the work before the work of the Lord. Help me to not fill my soul with the dainties of this world, but feast upon the blessings of Your word. Help me to present myself to You, and You alone, as a living sacrifice!
