Doing Everything Right, Still Getting it Wrong

Report CardRevelation 2:1-5, Unto the angel of the church of Ephesus write; These things saith he that holdeth the seven stars in his right hand, who walketh in the midst of the seven golden candlesticks; 2  I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars: 3  And hast borne, and hast patience, and for my name’s sake hast laboured, and hast not fainted. 4  Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love. 5  Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.

Almost all off my reading this morning, which ended with the passage above, screamed loudly and clearly, that, when it comes to our Christian life, we can do just about everything right, and yet, still get it wrong!

Like the church at Ephesus, we can BELIEVE all the right things, DO all the right things, and even STAND for all the right things, and still get it WRONG!

As Christians, we must be busy about our Father’s business, no doubt about it. Yet, let us be very careful, let us walk circumspectly, lest we find ourselves barren because of our busyness. We must never allow our activity for Christ replace our adoration of Christ. As the children of God, we must, first and foremost, focus our attention and affection upon the One who sits upon the throne.

BIBLICAL HOLINESS can best be defined and described as CLOSENESS TO THE LIVING CHRIST and CONFORMITY TO THE LIFE OF CHRIST.

O Lord, create within us a hunger and thirst for righteousness, and above all else, for the Righteous One.
